CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: ESRS 2025

The call for submissions for the European Society for Rural Sociology congress is open until February 14.

We would like to invite you to submit an abstract as part of Working Group 26: Gender equality and the liveability of agriculture and rural futures (https://esrs2025.rsu.lv/deep-dive)

Topic

The future is female, or so some declare. But is that the case for rural communities across Europe? This Working Group welcomes contributions that engage with research, policy and practice on/around gender, sexual diversity and feminist perspectives as they relate to agrarian and rural futures. As such, we welcome papers and contributions that engage empirically, methodologically and/or theoretically to questions of gender and sexual diversity in the European countryside and that question the relations between gender and liveable rural futures. 

Objectives

To bring together researchers working on gender, sexualities and feminist perspectives to reflect on the relationships between gender and liveable rural futures, and to examine diverse policy priorities to support enhance gender equality across Europe’s farming and rural communities.

Format

We aim to have sessions for paper presentations showcasing in particular the work of early -career scholars, followed by a dialogue, bringing together researchers active in three EU-funded projects (SWIFT, GRASS CEILING, FLIARA). The dialogue will consider how to enable rural and farm women to lead on ecological transitions across Europe. We will ask these panellist to engage directly with the papers presented in the earlier sessions, and to reflect on how these findings relate to the insights and outcomes of their projects share their insights, with a focus on policy recommendations.

How to submit

Your abstract should not exceed 250 words and should clearly target the theme of the selected Working Group. Please include 3 keywords.

Abstract submission is supported by the professional conference management software Exordo https://esrs2025.exordo.com/

All abstracts must be submitted electronically through this system by creating your individual account. Please note that when in the ExOrdo system, you will only see the Topic of each WG. A full description of each WG is available https://esrs2025.rsu.lv/

1. Before you can submit an abstract, the system will require that you create an account. Please note that accessing the Exordo system after creating the account can be only made using the original email and password. Please do not use alternative emails when accessing the system.

2. The author doing the submission will also need to sign a “Terms of Service” document on behalf of the submission team.

3. Following the creation of the account, you can log into the system to change your original abstract until the final date of the submission period (14 February 2025).

4. Your abstract should be entered in the online system by finding the “My Submissions” tab on your dashboard.

5. Select “New Submission” for each abstract you would like to submit. The site will then walk you through the process step by step.
